How can I make money off of my photography?

Crackah™ asked:

I’m young, but I’m told I am a really creative photographer. I’ve been told I could make money off some of my pictures. There is no hope in my town. Nobody would want to buy them here. I’m wondering how I could make some money off of them online? I also am planning on going to school for photography and get better and more professional. But I’m looking for ways to get a little money for now. Also, how would I know what a good price is for my work?

I forget the websites, but there are some online sites which will buy your pics and sell them for you… This might be difficult to do unless you’re a professional photographer…
Flickr.com has literally millions of excellent pics from professional photographers that anyone can download for free. Go to their website and see how your pics compare to theirs….

It is an excellent hobby, even if you can’t make any money doing it……….Good luck

If you want to sell some digital prints online, you can try photo sharing sites, stock photography sites (like ), or places like and Some of those you can make money from. You can look around these sites and see what people are charging.

The key is to get yourself known. You can try to win some amateur photography contests. This could give you some exposure. There’s a list here of some good ones:

Just be careful of scams. Good luck!

Yes! Post your pictures up at . You get paid for every view that you get. I have my pictures up there. There are no referral links so you know I’m not trying to “scam” you. You can check out the website and see what you think.

If you know anyone who has a current Mac computer, you can use IWeb to create a website showing your recent photographs. Set up an .mac account [$99 per year] and publish your IWeb webpage(s).

Acquire from Vistaprint.com a colorful business card by selecting from their many templates a suitable one that meets your needs. Make sure to list the URL of your website along with a telephone answering device. Do not place your home address or anything personal such as a cellphone on this businesscard. Then when you receive the finished business card, pass it around to various churches, temples and the like to solicit business.

When you receive a major photography assignment, visit your local professional camera store and “rent” the necessary camera equipment to fulfill this assignment.

Instead of renting a studio, take people pictures at local parks and beaches and for indoor shots, go to the client’s residence or office to set up a photo shooting environment which consists of a set of lights, reflective screens, background drapery, etc.

    Good luck!
