What kind of photography camera do i get?

I am taking a photography class and i am a total beginner i have never done anything with photography before. they said i need a photography camera but i dont know what that means or what to get or where to look? please help

    They probably mean a film SLR, but you should check with the instructor. Only they can answer your question properly. Some courses are forgoing the film cameras and going straight to digital. It’s a shame really, film is such a nice medium.

    I hope they do mean 35mm SLR, they probably do.. But as pointed out above many courses now are just teaching Digital. I do not think many courses will ‘require’ you to have any kind of SLR. They can be quite expensive and not everybody can afford them, I think they may be referring to a camera with manual settings. Basically a camera in which you can control the Aperture/Shutter Speed etc..

    If however they mean a film SLR then there are plenty to choose from, look at something like the Canon A-1. Olympus OM-1 etc… They usually come with a 50mm f/1.8 and you will learn more about photography quicker on these than any DSLR.

    Try Nikon D40 Digital SLR camera.It’s good for beginner,easy to use,compacted and light weight.

    Nikon D40 hands down best beginner camera, its about $500 and its a investment you will be VERY happy with.
    you can get it at best buy or staples.
