Photography is an art because it is a medium of expression. And like all other such media, most practitioners are not artists, and most photographs are not art.

it captures an image in order to capture an audience.

even in these days of quick fire digital imaging a good photograph can stop the observer in their tracks and make them annalyse the image before them just as other forms of art do such as sculptures, paintings etc.

Photography is an art because its a form of talent and creativity. Like when you see a paining, that person has creativity and talent for what they do…whether it is abstract or distortion. Photography is just like that but in stead of painting of a picture of something….its captured in a moment.

Photography is an art because anything to do with visuals is art.

For male photographers, saying what we do is art helps us get women out of their clothes when the other approaches haven’t worked.

Why do I get the impression this is another ‘Please do my homework for me’ question.

Answer for youself what role or function art plays and how that is achieved through visual forms. Then, look at photography to see how it fits that. Your answer is photography intended as an artistic expresssion is art because it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, so it’s a good bet it’s art.
